Private Recording Studio, London
Mason UK were pleased to work on the isolation of this recording studio, to remove the risk of noise complaint from adjacent residents. The frame used a Composite Layered Timber (CLT) structure, with the Glued Laminated Timber (glulam) columns and traditional timber framing above.
There was a strong focus on sustainability, materials such as sheep’s wool, cork, woodwool, recycled cotton insulation and timber were used wherever possible.
We engineered multiple isolated connections in the structure, using our cost-efficient Super W and BBNR natural rubber, low dynamic stiffness pads. We worked closely with the client and project architect to incorporate isolation without affecting the aesthetic.
In addition to the savings in embodied carbon, an engineering advantage of working with timber frames is that the imposed pressures are lower when compared to concrete or steel, this naturally provides more area for isolation pads to function, important to ensure isolators have a longer life than that of the structure, so no need to maintain or replace. This relies on keeping stress and strain well within material limits post compression.
We enjoyed working on another timber frame project. Whether large or small, we support all projects with equal attention and care and attention. Please contact us for assistance.
